I noticed the same thing with my '97 900S, maybe it's crazy electrons from the battery. I'm now in the habit of gently lowering the hood instead of letting it slam shut.I replace both at the same time so I won't need to go back later and replace the right one, so I'm not sure if the right one is getting ready to go or has a lot of life left in it. I've also given up on the more expensive "brighter" bulbs and just use the regular H4's. It appears that I've replaced fewer left bulbs since doing it that way, or I could just be humoring myself(at least the regular H4 is cheaper). You could remove the daytime running light fuse to preserve the bulbs.
