Well, if it's a certified SAAB dealer, and you've been getting your oil changes there, they'be been using SAAB Syn/Dino blend, which is probably close to as good for your car as full synthetic. But if you're going to do it yourself, and why not? then switch to full synthetic. It's the best thing for the car, especially given all the heat and speed generated by the turbo, and it's certainly better than any of the syn blends on the market. And, I believe, you can safely go 5000 miles between changes. I was doing full synthetic every three thousand, and the stuff was the same color after the miles as the day I put it in, so why not stretch a little? But if you do, make sure you spring a few bucks for a better filter. The Fram/STP/Valvoline brands are really only made for 3k. Going 5k on M1 or Fram's premium model is probably fine.

10-40 in the summer and 5-40 in the winter, right? The manual says 5-30 or 5-40, and people on this board have reccommended everything from 0-30 to 15-50, so I think you're pretty much okay as long as you're somewhere in the middle. I just put 10-30 in the car, because I had half a quart lying around and didn't want to but 5 of something else, so after that's gone I'll probably use 5-40 year round. Because with 5000 miles per change, you're going to overlap between seasons anyway.

Does this sound right? Please correct me, this is just my idea of practical application of the consensus of the board.

LASTLY, any easy ideas for propping up the car enough to get under it to twist off the filter and resovoir bolt? I'm sick of paying meineke $15 and letting a 17 year old drive my car on and off the lift. I'm thinking maybe bricks, or boards or something for the front tires? That'll help the old stuff and sediment drain out, too, right?
