Good idea to change over. If you've been using semi-synthetic up until now, it isn't really necessary to use a flush first. However, using a good flush first certainly won't hurt anything. Best I know of are made by AMSOIL and BG-- if you are willing to do it over 1000 miles or more, check out Auto Rx.
My biased opinion is to use AMSOIL 5W-40 for the longest recommended drain interval. Use of one of the new AMSOIL EaA 57 oil filters will give the best dirt removal along with the best flow available.
If you don't, or won't, use AMSOIL, Mobil 1 0W-40 is an excellent oil.
