Just fixed a simliar problem with my 1997 900s non-turbo. It was the electrical portion of the ignition switch. I can't say for sure this is your exact problem but syptoms are the same. The part is about $128 (europarts) to $160 in different parts places I have checked. The job itself involves removing the center console beginning with the portion just below the radio, all the way to the end of it.
You will need some patience, a torx drive set, 10mm wrench and socket with a medium length extension, and some time (2 to 4 hours approx). If you are mechanically incline at all, you can do this at home, I would hate to think what it would cost at a dealer with the time involved, probably upwords of $500.
The car has been running great and no ill chimes or fading lights on the dash, so I am please with the results. I did check my fuel pump, and fuel pump relay prior to the change, just to narrow down the problem, a long with MAJOR help from this site, thanks all! I hope this helps some.
