The trouble code was P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire. Per the instructions on this site, I checked the fuel tank to rule it out by checking that it activated when cranked. Found the elegant instructions about checking a fuse with a voltmeter but couldn't find my voltmeter. So went ahead and replaced the CPS. That was the problem. Went to a local Indy mechanic who had a Saab scanner that pulled up 2 additional trouble codes (P0335 Carnkshaft Position Sensor and P0442 EVAP leakage).
The symptoms were diffuse and dogged me for about 6 weeks which at first was an engine miss, then a sputter at high RPM and turbo, then on one occasion a power loss while going 70mph on a freeway (altho once I made it into the emergency lane and turned off the ignition, it start back up seemingly just fine), then shortly thereafter a failure to start when cold (not hot like I've seen elsewhere on this site).
Thanks for all the help. This site really rocks!
