Man, I hear you! A day after I picked up my Viggen the Krown rust proofing shop crunched my air dam/bumper. I've so terrified of hitting parking curbs, my car's butt is always sticking out in parking lots because I stop 3' away from the curb. Still, somehow, the lower edge of the bumper is wearing away. Not sure where I'm scraping the ground.
I've thought of adding an aluminum skidplate below the bumper's edge, but not attaching it to the bumper so that the bumper can still move in the event of an impact with a curb.
I like your idea of adding a 'soft' sacrificial part below the bumper, much better. Interesting to hear what other ideas there are.
I'll have my bumper off in a few weeks to install a new IC and will try to work something out before the snow and ice hits!
