They've coverd a lot of things out of warranty from what I've seen. However, as things have gotten worse and worse financially at GM, the "goodwill" stuff has suffered. Most GM brands would have just shut you down completely.
As for the other brands, take a closer look. A Lexus is just a Toyota with two coats of paint (There is no Lexus in Japan, just Toyota). When my still-under warranty Toyota caught on fire due to a design defect, Toyota hid behind legalese and refused to pay for the repair. Their real concern was that someone was going to die in a similar fire and they didn't want to have previously admitted it was their problem - so I was left with a $250 repair bill. I pushed it almost to the North America CEO's office and they would not budge.
Most every Nissan V6 produced from 1993 to 1996 popped the manifold bolts and bent the manifolds to the tune of $500-$1000 to repair each car - usually at 50-60K miles and out of warranty. Nissan even came out with an "improved" bolt - but refused to pay for any of the repairs to millions of cars (they were all past 36K when it happened).
Last I heard, Audi owners were kind of aggravated lately too.
It's all cars, not just Saabs.
Why didn't you participate in the class action wheel lawsuit ?
