Hi Andrew,

I just went through this with my '97 900 turbo. I had a mech put the OEM style brake pads all around(Pagid), which admittedly had great bite and would stop with very little pressure on the pedal. However--after about 500 miles of bedding in I could not get them to stop squealing. There were a few threads on this forum about how the OEM pads were as hard or harder compound than the rotors themselves, and while they stopped great, they would eventually warp rotors and more often than not squeal like hell.

The same threads had several reccomendations for Satisfied Pro pads, which is what I ended up going with. For less than half the price of OEM I got all new brake pads, resurfaced the rear rotors (which hadn't been done when the pads were changed the first time, I discovered) and adjusted the handbrake while I was at it. They are definitely softer pads, which translates into a little more pedal travel and pressure, but by the same token I feel like I have more precise control over the stopping power of this car. I am no stranger to twisty mountain roads and these pads work as well as the OEM. Oh, and the bonus is they don't squeak!

If you are into the DIY scene this is pretty straightforward to do, otherwise I'm sure a reputable Saab shop will be happy to install pads if you bring them. Tirerack.com generally has great prices on the pads.
