Reliability Rating - Often and important traveling

Terribly, my soon to be mother-in-law has been diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. My fiance will now be traveling 4 hours to see her on most weekends. I do not trust our current Volvo S40 enough to let her make this drive that often when I cant be with her. I would really like to get her a nice 2000-2002 9-3 convertible. I have always loved saabs and this will be my fourth one, but first newer than 1988. I know what trouble they can be. Will a 9-3 be reliable enough to get her back and forth. It is very important the car be very reliable as most of the time she will be traveling at night. I am really hoping to find a viggen but it doesnt have to be. Should I pass on the idea and go with something much more boring and common or is this a tough car.
Any input from experienced users is much appreciated as I would kinda of like to get a car this weekend if possible. There can not be to many opinions. Are there just a few problem 9-3's or many?
I really dont want to have to buy a camry or the like!
