You have no complaint to the mechanic -
Saab engineers screwed this one up -
same thing when I did the clutch myself, and a friends that another mechanic did -
when you change the clutch it changes the pressure on the cable, which by their own admission of defective design (abandoned after only 3 years in favor of hydraulic clutch and multiple bulletins,) it can't handle the sudden increase in pressure and often fails shortly after clutch replacement -
that's why Swedecar and I (and others) have it right - always do the cable right when you do the clutch - unless the cable was done in the last 5k or so miles (and still has proper tension - it's a hands on test to see if it's strong enough for the new clutch) -
there's really no way to know once it's worn if it will last another 5k or 30k - especially a non-Saab mechanic -
no there's no other way, Saab gave up on that design, unless you want to go with a manually adjustable cable and have it reset every 10k-15k miles or so (noone I know has opted for that so far...)
