My 94 900s 2.3non-turbo (190,000 miles) keeps leaving my wife stranded. She'd leave me, but thankfully the car won't start ; )

For more than a year the car starts when hot and when cold, but would sometimes fail to start when warm. It always rolls over vigorously but when it chooses not to start, it just won't catch. We were able to work around it by planning or by waiting 10-15 minutes, but in the last two weeks, it's gotten so that often, it won't start even when cold.

Spraying a quick shot of ether/starting fluid into the air intake and she starts right up. To me that suggests it is getting spark, and gas arrives eventually, but only once the engine fires.

Some have suggested vapor lock, but with it not starting even when cold (as in sitting for 2 days) I have a hard time believing that.

Any thought or suggestions on how to diagnose could really help me smooth things over with the Mrs.
