The car is running fine. I went out this evening to check in
the well/canity the DIC fits into. Here is what I found after
driving the car for 30 miles.
1) the floor of the cavity/well was dry. I had cleaned it out
thoroughly before my trip.
2) the tip and ceramic sides of the spark plugs in cylinders
2 and four had a very thin film of coolant on them. There
was no coolant around their base before I pulled them.
3) The DIC "nozzles" that fit over the tip of the spark plugs
were also slightly wet -- only the two plugs mentioned above.
For the record:
1) There is no oil in the coolant. There is no coolant in the oil.
2) The new plugs (only one day's use) have a very fine white powder on
them which was easily wiped off.
So............I have come to the following weird theory. When the
coolant system was last topped off or drained and new coolant was
added (straight), some of it was spilled onto the DIC. As a result,
somehow, some of it worked its way into the DIC and leaked or leached
out of the unit through the "nozzles" (gravity 101). The fact the
amount of coolant I am finding is going down encourages me to assume
(believe?) I am slowly but surely drying out the DIC unit.
I can't imagine how fresh coolant could "force" its way UP into the
well/cavity through the spark plugs.
So...........unless someone can come up with a better approach, I am simply going to monitor how much coolant is -- or isn't -- in the cavity/well. If it continues to dry up as it seems to be doing, I
am going to chalk all this up to a weird, "special cause," event.
This all started with a CEL code noting cylinder 4 was ocassionally
misfiring. I had great concern the DIS was going to have to be replaced
when/if I bought the car.
Here I am checking on weird coolant drip patterns -- which seem to be
drying up!
This SAAB is my 7th, maybe it will deliver a charmed drive.
Thanks upfront for your thoughts and ideas.
