i usually don't rant on here, but my experience today at Sitton Buick/Pontiac/GMC in Greenville, SC was truely unbelievable, and a definite sign of things to come. First of all - the name in and of itself would be the first clue that you are not going to be treated like the Swedish Aristocat you think you are pulling up in your SAAB. So - I drive into the service bay in my <<stunning>> black Viggen. First question should have been my que to flee:
What kinder SAAB is thayit!?
Second question (we're 3 ft. away from it):
What culler is thayit?!
It's a black 2000 9-3. Let's move on.
Long story short, I went in to get the alarm disabled and a new key (the all-in-one type ) synched to my car.
30 minutes later: Ahhh, sir - we cain't do thayit to the 'larm systum. Whar's the resta yer key?
Okay...hold on, hold on. Yes you can, and that is the wrong key you ordered for me. I'm not going to go any farther - it was just so incredibly sobering to see a window into the future. It's only going to get worse as parts become harder to source, and dealerships dry up. On the other hand - it might be that the indies will get a bump in business from the GM dump, and then - we will have maybe more SAAB techs that actually GIVE A SHITE about what they're working on. having a hard time swallowing this hard dose of reality, but i'm a very, very long way from throwing in the towel.
