Me again, '01 9-3 that sees salted roads...despite the nasty state my rotors were in, and the general coating of rust everywhere else, the bleed screws worked fine. Underneath the rubber caps was clean brass, and they turned smoothly after an initial tug on the wrench. As long as you don't let the wrench slip, there's not really much to worry about.
The only thing I found strange was that my front bleed screws took a different size wrench than the rear (9mm vs 8mm, IIRC). I don't know if they come this way due to the different caliper designs, or if that indicates some were replaced along the way.
