Gentlemen,
Thanks for your honesty and opinions. I appreciate it more than you know.
I just moved to North Carolina from NJ. I have been driving BMWs for 23 years and have a 2001 X5 with the V8. It was never intended to be my primary vehicle, and at 19.2mpg I need another vehicle. I've put 30,000 miles on it this year.
Unfortunately Hondas and Toyotas are too boring and pedestrian for me. I run back to the NE often and will probably put 25k a year on whatever I drive.
I see a 1995 900 SE convertible with 150k for $1900 and was going to check it out and had an epiphany. Why not commute with the BMW (8 miles each way) and when I need to hit the road use that $1900 to rent a car. That's probably two years of trips and no maint. or break downs.
Hmmmmmmmmmm
