After blowing my transmission last year in my Viggen I had a Quaife installed in the new trans. As BMillar says, it transfers wheels spin to the opposing wheel. Wheel spin and subsequent wheel hop, if you stay on it, will destroy the tranny. The Viggen, even in stock form, has massive amounts of torque and when a wheel spins freely and then suddenly grabs, all that torque goodness is transfered to the drive shafts and a few parts in the tranny....bang! My transmission blew due to a bad crush sleeve...quite common actually.
Driving with LSD is a bit different. Firstly you notice how much more power is transferred to the road....the car accelerates much better. Secondly, my front right tire is no longer worn out. It's amazing just how much wheel spin you can get, even on the highway. Helps too that my Viggen is stage 4 Nordic. With LSD, accelerating in a corner is very different as the LSD can begin to fight the turn if acceleration is too vigerous.
3000 rpm max.? I'd say that's bad for the car. I think the Viggen puts out most of it's torque between 2000 and 3000 so you're straining parts. Higher revs would be better for the car. I usually try to stay between 2500 and 4000 unless I get heavy footed then 5000 is a nice shift point. Besides the Viggen sounds oh so sweet at 5K!!!
