You'll notice that vehicles designed for driving in snow bound lands full time ofte have very wide tires.
The difference is how deep and well packed the snow cover is. If the snow is such that your tires can dig down through it to get to the pavement below, then narrower is better. If the cover is already packed on the street and you won't be seeing pavement anytime soon, the wider tire will distribute the load horizontally and keep you from getting stuck.
The "best" snow tire for you depends on the conditions where you plan to drive.
