...to what extent. In deep snow, narrow tires cut through snow when wide tires start to plow. On the other hand, unless you're getting a lot of snowfall, you're not realizing that much of a benefit. After the roads are plowed, a wider tire will provide more traction than a narrower tire, especially on ice when any traction you're able to gain is afforded by the very edge of each individual tread block. Overall, for everyday winter driving, unless you're getting more than a few inches of accumulation more than a couple times a week, any decent snow tire is going to provide ample traction. In reality, very few people drive fast enough in slick conditions to notice much of the subtle difference tire width would make in the total winter driving experience.
