Having read through all the posts I understand you have already verified the fuel economy by measuring the actual fuel consumed over the actual miles driven, so I won't suggest that you repeat that process; I'm confident you're more than capable of performing this calculation accurately.
The higher compression and combustion temperatures of turbocharged engines necessitate high octane fuel. However, the APC (boost control) system is capable of compensating for low octane fuel by reducing the maximum boost pressure, and retarding the ignition timing. These compensations can result in lower fuel economy, so your engine will benefit from continued use of Premium Unleaded Fuel. The NGK spark plugs are not special, they are actually very basic, but they perform better than any other brand in our engines, and yes, they can be changed just like any other spark plug. Simply remove the four screws retaining the DI cassette, and go about the rest of the job after making sure the engine has cooled sufficiently.
