removing alternator top bolt?

I must be missing something. I am changing the carrier bearing on my 99 9-3. Per the posts know that I need to move the alternator to reach the bolts on the carrier bearing bracket. I cannot get a 8mm socket into the top bolt on the alternator as the tensioner pully blocks the area. I have tried to cut a 8mm Allen wrench and use it with a box wrench but cannot get enough leverage. So next I think remove the tensioner but it seems that the alternator bold needs to come out as some of the bolts are blocked by the alternator. Any ideas on this I am stumped and not very pleased that saab thought that this bolt set up was reasonable for removing the alternator.
