My struts, I did something a little unconventional as I wanted to make sure, or at least limit, two problems with the gland nut.
I put blue loctite at the end of the thread, and antiseize at the top of the thread. The loctite at the end (bottom of the thread that will screw in first) will hopefully keep it from backing out but still make for a breakable bond - the "breakaway" torque is about 115 in lbs (about 10 ft lbs).
As the gland nut is screwed in, some will be left at the top of the thread of the housing, but that's where the anti-seize will come in. It will not let the loctite grip the top, at the same time, it will hopefully prevent the nut from seizing. It's the area at the top of the housing thread and gland nut that gets frozen from rusting, not so much the lower thread area as the lower threads are not exposed to the elements.
