1. Install adjustable Koni's. They make a big difference. First shock I ever used that improved both handling and ride, which are generally, adn by definition in most cases, diametrically opposed.
2. Often squeal is caused by the pads moving in the calipers. You can remove the pads and grease the sliders/contact surfaces with a little moly brake grease. Use the right stuff and use it sparingly. Sometimes squeal will go away on its own as the pads wear to match the rotors or whatever is on them wears off.
3. Michelin Exalto. Great all season tires. I've managed through 6" unplowed streets with the Exalto's and been comfortable. Be aware that Winter is always the first season to wear off tires. If you are in NH, you might want to get some real snows. Depends how far up you are in NH, and how much regular commuting you need to do, etc.
4. Yes, there is a reason not to use 87 octane. You engine will detune and perform poorly. I know some people think they can economize by using 87, but it rarely matters, and it's not worth the detune.
Here's some math for you: Let's say you drive 15K miles per year and you average 25mpg. That's 600 gallons of gas. At $3/gallon, that's $1800/year. When you car detunes to run on 87, you will typically lose mpg. Let's be conservative and assume you only lose 1 mpg. Math again: 15K miles, 24mpg = 625 gallons. Let's cut the price by .20 for 87 octane. Total cost/year $1750. You save a whopping $50/year, and your car doesn't run as well as designed and isn't as much fun to drive. Not to mention, we were conservative in our mpg reduction. Up it to 2mpg loss, and it actually costs you $26 more per year. Do the numbers with your own estimates. I don't see any value in it and the savings is really trivial even if you do have any savings.
5. Yes. Pick up either a new DI, which you will need sooner or later, or get a used one cheap on Ebay for emergency use. A used one is fine as long as you test it ahead of time and it works... you can always buy the new one as needed if/when the used one comes into play.
6. Not my area... I used to obsess over audio in my younger days, now I prefer the wind of my 'vert or the melodic sound of a woman's voice beside me to perfected audio. YMMV.
