Well, all is good on the companion flange/differential bushing surgery. I took it on a 250 mile trip, and the clunking is completely gone. So far, the reman'd axle was a good idea too. It saved me about $400. We'll see how it holds up. Even if I need to replace the tripod bearing, that's not hard to do.

I flushed and re-filled my trans with the MTF 0063 fluid. My car had the old stuff in it. Shifting is definitely smoother, but the fluid is clearly thinner, and I notice more gearbox whine. It's not objectional, just noticable.

If anyone needs to do this job, I recommend it. It's not easy, but just take your time, and be happy with the thousands of dollars you saved over the alternative.
