You are giving me another excuse to procrastinate ;-) The thermostat arrived on Monday, complete with the little yellow tab locked in the air bleeding whole that Anders mentioned in another thread. I'm all excited to drain coolant and replace thermostat this coming weekend . . . until I saw that housing bolt concern that you are writing now ;-) Luckily I have my 9-5 wagon to drive, so my mobility is not entirely dependent on the 9-3 convertible.
The bolts look like accessible from the brake-booster/firewall side, with the socket extensions that I have. I will give the bolts some WD40 in the next couple days before torquing them loose. Any torque spec on these? (Speaking of torque specs, the tire shop's air impact wrench is killing my socket adapters as they way over-torque my wheel bolts: in excess of 100ft-lb instead of the 80ft-lb spec; both my 1/2"-3/8" socket adapters sheered off at 90ft-lb). Any pointers on how to get the thermostat housing bolts out without breaking is appreciated.
