Cold start problem 02 Viggen code P0116. Posted by Viggen Aero [Email] (#977) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Viggen Aero) on Sat, 27 Nov 2010 13:30:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
2002 Viggen vert 52K miles.
Six weeks ago, I had a bad coolant sensor, as indicated by P0116, and also sporadic temp gauge operation- sometimes reading zero. I also had trouble starting the car when cold. I replaced it with a good used sensor from my parts car. Everything fine/ normal for a few weeks. Then same scenario as above. It think it started OK when cold. But ambient temp was sporadic then, 30-60 degrees- I live in Mass.
I replaced sensor again, with a brand new SAAB sensor. CEL was reset. CEL did not come back on. But temp gauge was still reading lower than normal (approx 1/4) and the cold start problems continued.
After two weeks, the CEL came back on again- same code P0116. And the cold start problems continue.
Car starts fine in temps above 50 F or so. Always runs fine, no matter how cold it is ( 25 F lowest so far). And always starts up fine, once engine is warm.
I replaced the T-stat (OEM SAAB) today, which obviously can cause a low temp reading, and as I understand it- the same code P0116 as the sensor. I reset the CEl and so far no CEL. But the T-stat would not cause the cold start problem. What else should I check for cold start problems?
