How to get Thermostat Housing off
Posted by Tim (more from Tim) on Sat, 11 Dec 2010 18:07:36
'99 9-3 convertible here. I have taken off two 10mm bolts holding the thermostat housing to a bracket, and two 13mm bolts (next to each other) on the opposite side across the housing surface. The housing is not moving at all.
I tried to undo the rubber hose, but after clamping the spring ring open and moving it down the hose (off the receiving end at the thermostat housing), the rubber hose is found to be quite stuck on the housing. I'm afraid of breaking the rubber hose in this low temperature environment (garage is only 10 degrees or so higher than outside, which is freezing). So I'm hoping to get the housing loose, replace the thermostat, then get the whole thing back onto the mounting spot on the engine/water-jacket. Any suggestion how I can get the thermostat housing off? Thanks in advance.
