You will have as many ways there are mechanics out there.
I leave the intake manifold in car hooked up and loosen the bolts using wobble sockets and 1/4" extensions. I just have to loosen the harness bracket bolts to give me a little wiggle room for the socket and extensions.
When everything goes back together, I insert all bolts for intake and hang the manifold gasket on the bolts barely sticking out of the manifold and slowly, carefully lower the head into place.
I remove all exhaust manifold nuts except the middle one that I just loosen and certainly the 4 turbo nuts. If Oden and Thor is with me, the 4 turbo studs comes out with the nuts and makes life very easy but if not, the head needs to be raised very, very carefully wiggled off the turbo studs without breaking the solid timing chain guide.
You absolutely replace all 4 long studs before things go back together and when drilling out the broken one, I try to remove the outer threads in head with a bigger drill and that makes it easier for the stud to come out with the extractor.
Remember to use extra loctite 518 on the leak prone areas of head gasket.
