Go with standard Saab coolant, or really anything besides Dex-Cool. Dex-Cool is fine if it's religiously changed every couple of years and the cooling system is in perfect shape, but if anything goes wrong, Dex-Cool can cause problems. Personally, I'd go with the old blue coolant.

I would seriously doubt that whatever coolant Scanwest put in your parents' car would cause problems. Chances are it's Prestone, which is completely compatible with the old blue coolant, and most everything else out there. They may have just used a low quality water pump that's going out again. My '97 900 still has its original water pump, but my parents' Pontiac is on its fourth in the same amount of time. You might call them up and ask what brand they use, then see what people on the internet say about that brand.
