I put a couple 12" extensions together and loosen it from the top. Then I wind my arm down there, twist the hose a couple times, and off it comes.
I went to this method after I read posts from a few folks here who had issues with the drain plug shearing off or similar. Seems easy to me.
As for the antifreeze into a river or such... it actually bio degrades in just a few days. Concentrations are bad as animals can get into them... just make sure you wash it away until there are no concentrations left anywhere.
