Few more questions on manual transmission fluid plugs Posted by Nicholas [Email] (#2995) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nicholas) on Fri, 11 Jan 2013 17:23:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Seems this is another "SAAB story".
Moved the PS fluid reservoir (black opaque fluid reservoir), and was told the fill plug is right under it. I do see a very visible large HEX head bolt (not the 8mm plug). So, I'm not sure if this is the fill and someone replaced, or if this is correct? I'm pretty sure this is the bolt, because I don't see anything else nearby.
Checked the level. It's there, and it looks like someone has done some stripping on it. Of course, I'd rather not mess with it at all. Is it possible just to drain and fill with two quarts and not remove the level plug?
Finally, the drain. This seems like a typical SAAB bolt. I got a new 3/8 breaker bar only to find out almost nothing will fit between the drain bolt and the frame it is up against :( I can wiggle a regular L shaped hex wrench in there, but I don't know how I'm going to get enough torque to break it free without stripping. Small pipe on wrench? Not sure.
PB blasted the drain and the level, just in case, and now I'm "thinking" because I don't want to make this job any worse than it has to be. Thanks for any help or ideas!
