9-3, '01, SE.
I've pulled the valve cover to replace the gasket and am contemplating the head bolts. The car is in the VIN number range that Saab reported to need a retorque. I don't have any records to say whether the bolts have been addressed at some point. I don't see any sign of seepage that might indicate loose bolts. There was no extra sealer on the valve cover gasket to indicate that the valve cover had ever been off before
The bolts are the style that has a washer, but I don't know which of the two styles Anders described they are. They're marked BUF O or BUF C, the same as the replacements I got in anticipation of the job.
I put a torque wrench on a few bolts (including #10) and they seem tight, but I didn't want to really whale on them. When I did the job on my '99 9-5, I recall that the bolts were pretty easy to turn and that there was no doubt that they were loose.
So....Does it look like these head bolts have been replaced/retorqued and that I should leave them alone, or do I go ahead and just replace them?
