Just a thought: If the engine was leaking antifreeze between two cylinders, it could cause both cylinders to not fire right away. It might be worth taking a look at the spark plugs and the tops of the pistons in the morning to look of moisture.
And, the first mechanic said $1500 to do both heads? The 2.0L engine has only one head. Didn't know if that was a typo based on the fact that the estimate was twice what the second mechanic quoted... Ron
