'97 900SE 2.0 turbo
165k miles, last replaced battery probably 4-5 years ago.
On a business trip, ~100 miles from home.
Hot when I left the office yesterday, so I hit the AC button (first time this year). About a mile down the road, I get the dinging, battery light, and ! in a triangle.
I didn't notice any obvious major performance change. Car restarted this morning (started quick as normal, first crank), still have light.
I'm not at home with full tool-set (like my scan-tool), so I'm starting from the theoretical drection: What is that battery light measuring? Voltage on battery? Current coming from Alternator?
Afer a voltage check (have access to voltmeter), what else can/should I be looking for to try and diagnose in a hotel parking lot? And/or have a Farm & Fleet type of place check for free?
I'd really rather do my own work than pay a guy $500 to replace an alternator on the road if at all possible, so I am really trying to figure out if I can make it home safe.
