For the fuel pump, if you are in a really quiet place, just turning the ignition key to "On" (not actually cranking it), you should hear the fuel pump activate (sound coming from back near the fuel tank below the rear seat). If you do not hear that, then the fuel pump has some problem and has likely failed. That is the easy test. I am sure there are more detailed tests that can be done.
Best way to test if it is the DI would be to swap in another one and see if the problem goes away. When my old DI was getting "questionable", I got a new one, replaced the plugs and installed the new DI...keeping the old one as an emergency backup.
