I have posted this issue before and have been dealing with it for two years now (I don't drive to work). I am the original owner of a 2002 9-3 SE that I love / take great care of. I have been getting code P0717, which means "no signal sent from the input shaft speed sensor". I'm at a bit of a loss and already did this:

1. I replaced the sensor three times, including a swap with the output sensor. No change to the problem; it is not a bad sensor.
2. I changed transmission fluid.
3. I checked wiring and to the extent that I could see, there was no problem with any wire, nor the connection at the sensor, nor the connection at the main plug behind the battery.

The problem is intermittent. Could be every five minutes or every few hundred miles that the code gets triggered and the trans goes into limp home mode, so I only have 4th gear and reverse (note I carry a scanner to erase the codes and get all gears back instantly).

The intermittent aspect of this has me baffled, but the way I see it, possibilities include:
1. issue with a wire that I did not see.
2. something inside the trans occasionally lodging itself between the ring and the sensor.
3. faulty TCM.

I bought a used TCM that I did not yet install/try. All I can think to do is try the new TCM, and if the code comes back, jump the wires from the sensor to the TCM and bypass everything else. If that works, I'll know it's in part of the wiring I did not see.

Does anyone have another idea? My wiring diagram suggests there's no relays or anything between the TCM and the sensor, but is there one inside the TCM? The problem is more frequent if it's wet out, but it does not appear to be related to the presence of bumps in the road. I have driven over potholes with no problem and cruised on smooth road in 4th and had the code randomly get triggered. I'm really pulling my hair out and if anyone has advice or moral support, I'm all ears.

Thanks so much!
Eric
