I had a quick look at the Valmet website. Apparently a total of 7,789 9-3's were built at the Nystad/Uusikaupunki factory. Since according to Wikipedia a total of 4,600 Viggens were built, looks like they also manufactured base/SE/aero 9-3's.
They actually list convertibles from 1986 to 2003 separately (198,032), so Viggen convertibles might not be included in the total of 7,789 9-3's.
My dad worked at Saab Valmet as a material designer in the 80's. In those days it was *common knowledge* that the Finnish Saabs were of better quality than the Swedish ones :-)
