Ignition Cassette Problems? Posted by Thomas333639 [Email] (#1880) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Thomas333639) on Tue, 25 Mar 2014 18:55:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Still trying to diagnose my ignition and running problems:
Can the following be attributable to a faulty ignition cassette, or must there be something else at work?
Symptoms, in order of appearance:
1. When ignition key was turned (about half the time - the other half worked normally), lights would come on, but car would be silent. I i kept the ignition key turned, the heater would quickly come on, and, eventually, the car would turn over and start fine. In the alternative, if i turned the ignition switch a couple of times, the car would start on one of those times.
2. While running at speed, the engine would die (but not go into Limp Home Mode). I could get it to restart merely by turning the key off, turning it on and clutch starting the engine while i was still rolling.
3. The choke in the throttle body failed, and i replaced the throttle body.
4. Now, when the engine died, either on the highway or while waiting at idle (if i fluctuated the throttle, it would not stall), it would go into Limp Home mode (the throttle body now worked) but i could not reset the system by turning the key on and off, but needed to pull over and disconnect and reconnect either the positive or negative terminal on the battery. Once that was done, the car was apparently reset and restart fine (consistent with #1, above), and run well.
5. I installed a used, now obviously defective (the engine was misfiring, and dying, and would not restart, even if reset, as above), Ignition Cassette, and had to put back in the other one.
5. My turbo, since yesterday (after the terrible experience with the faulty ignition cassette, is only kicking in about half its usual power.
I've replaced the spark plugs. No faulty codes show.
Any ideas?
