There isn't anything wrong with using glue on a spline fit that's worn out. Mine was not worn out, and hasn't moved in over 10 years. They physically broke the knob off, and probably damaged a bit more of the plastic on the inside of the knob.
In my experience, epoxy or any adhesive is generally poor and prone to failure when the underlying joint is damaged, and under stress. Since both is the case here, I expect it could fatigue and then break at any moment, and could even cause an accident.
Long story short, the dealer refused to replace the knob, saying they didn't want to get involved with removed the epoxy'd fitting. Of course Geico and the bad body shop jumped on that and are insisting all is well and demanding I take the car back as-is.
Just after they broke it, I specifically told them I did not want it glued back on. They glued it on anyway, because Geico told them to. In Florida, performing a repair against the implied or expressed direction of the vehicle owner is against the law. Of course, Geico doesn't care.
This whole ordeal has probably been one of my worst times with this car, despite having so many bad times with it already. I think I will rename her "The Struggle"
