Took the dash apart and found the terminal in the plug that was for the exciter wire. The wire was the same color as the exciter wire at the alternator and it has continuity!
I changed the bulb in the battery warning light even though the old one was good and will put it all back together tomorrow.
If I still don't get power at the exciter wire then I plan on running a wire from a source in the car that only has power when the switch is on.
I just need to know what size fuze I should put in the wire.
