I suggest the problem could be as simple as a faulty pressure sensor. I had the sensor fail on a sailboat engine summer before last. I shut the diesel down right away and was able to drift back to the dock. The weekend was a bust but after finding a new sensor problem was solved. Engine ran great following installation of the new sensor and saw a lot of use last summer. As cruising sailors we generally cover as many miles under power as under sail.
