I was at the Saab dealer years ago and they were installing an engine in a 9-3 with 16K miles on it. The story was they bought it new and never changed the oil. Clogged the oil pickup screen. The mechanic said it was happening pretty regularly. I thought Saab issued a bulletin changing the oil spec to full synthetic.
