Hello all!
I'm a long-time Saab owner and Saabnet participant/member.
I recently bought a Viggen and I can't be happier. Over 4th of July weekend, my family goes down to the Santa Cruz area (Scotts Valley) from the Tahoe area (Nevada City). I had been searching for a fun car to replace my recently sold 9000 Aero and had missed a Viggen a couple weeks prior when it was sold the day before I was to look at it.
I found my new Viggen advertised on c-list two days before our trip through the bay area and I called. I nice elderly gentleman picked up the phone and said he'd be happy to show it to me in a couple of days time when I came through. We met he and his wife late in the evening of the 3rd. He and I took the car out for a spin while his wife and mine entertained our two young kids.
Needless to say, I liked the car, and he liked me enough to sell it to me and hold it for two days so I could drive it home on the return trip. I had cash in hand for such an occasion, but he wouldn't take a deposit. Turns out, he had bought it new from Dirito Brothers Saab in 2000 and had all records from either the dealer or another local Saab specialty shop. He has owned Saabs since 1959. He's 81 years old, and sold it to me, as far as I could read between the lines, for what the dealership would give him on trade. He just wanted it to go to someone who would take care of it. I think it helped that we rolled up in our 2003 9-5 Aero wagon.
Silver 4 door with black interior, 102K miles, in great shape. Minor scrapes on the bumpers (I think Viggen bumpers come pre-scraped from the factory to save their owners the heartache of knowing they were the first to drag those low bumpers across, well, just about anything.)
More photos if you're interested.
So far, I'm loving it.
I bought it from a renowned geneticist (see link below).
Cheers,
~Peter
