I guess you have 2 choices. The first is continue to use what has worked successfully for you so far : the dino 10W-30. The Saab oil spec from their Saab Service CD is 10W-30 to API SG rating. So any SJ oil with the API starburst on the front label at your favorite store exceeds this requirement.
Second choice is to go synthetic GEARBOX oil of your own liking. We have posted at length all about SAAB brand or MTL by RED LINE.
I believe the manual you have says no synthetic ENGINE oil in the gearbox---if not it is a tragic typo omission.
Since your vehicle is out of warranty, many other options are certainly availavle to you.
Saab,in some oftheir owners manuals, and their sevice info specifically states NOT to use synthetic ENGINE oils in the gearbox as they are too slippery.
To successfully changeover to synthetic gearbox oil of whatever Brand you prefer, and not overhauling the tranny, you are faced with changing it twice.
You drain out the dino and refill with synthetic. Go out and drive it for 50-100 miles ideally. Drain it (again) and refill with synthetic. This method gives you a total change.
IN MY OPINION, and .35 cents for the coffee needed to read this post, the issues in the c900 were not lube issues.
Saab trannys (at least beginning with the first Model 99 I owned, and now to the present 9-3) never required hypoid gear lube.
The viscosity of 75W-90 and 10W-30 engine oils is similar in relationship to 20 C and 68 F .
Last, I would say what is the application here ??
Do you go to the drag races with this ride and turn 6,000 rpms in all the gears ?? Or is it a daily driver ??(This in regards to 20W -50 weight you have previously posted) Do you live in consistently HOT HOT HOT climates, or do you enjoy the change of seasons ? If the latter, 10W 30 is all you need vs 20W 50.
Regards.
