Saab makes improvements in each and every model year, so its impossible to fully detail what changes occur/have occurred in these 5 speeds since the 1994 launch of the carline.
Glad its a daily driver application, but please understand that some readers may race on the weekends, so that was why I asked in the previous post.
They --SAAB--switched over mid 1997 to synthetic gearbox oil and synthetic Power Steering Fluid.
I am sometimes accused of being callous to BB posters. I am using Red Line MTL in my 1999 -HOT and SAAB synthetic gearbox oil in my 1998 NG 900 SET.
I realize your detailed search for information and detail here, but, to me, and in my opinion, there is no difference I can see/feel/and even smell in the 2 products, other than Saab's is almost 2x price of what I can purchase the MTL for. I pour the MTL right out of the bottle into the tranny--no additives-nothing. Straight in . NO Problems.
At my local dealership, there is no warranty/denial-type of issue on the MTL. My dealer does not care if I use MTL--they ask why I even have to change it ??? Here again my dealer--and its a GREAT dealer compared to others posted on this BB--has repeated the caution NOT to use synthetic engine oil.
What could break if you use it --you ask ? I do not know. I accept the non-use of synthetic engine oil like I accept don't touch the iron, because it is hot and you could burn yourself ?? How bad could I burn my self as the fingers reach upwards to the iron.........
I am trying nicely to say you may be making more of this than you need. I am not being critical or attempting to flame or diss your post. Either synthetic product will easily handle your application.
Regards.
