Thank you for the tips. The cylinder is in the Popped-up position, but will not turn. I have a universal replacement key and cylinder, into which i can insert the electrical portion of the key. I would only need a separate key to open the doors or hatch mechanically, which i rarely do, in any event, using the electric controls to unlock the car.
So, it sounds as though the electric part of the ignition, broken or not, should not restrict the key lock cylinder from turning.
The problem is that I cannot remove the key lock cylinder because it will not turn from Lock to Off, no matter how much dry lube i use, or how many times i try to jiggle the key.
Locksmiths are avoiding saabs, it appears.
Thank you for all of your suggestions. I'll let you know what happens.
