Moisture condenses in the hose and freezes. Resultant high pressure in the crankcase blows out engine and turbo seals/gaskets and oil pours out. Expensive noises can be expected shortly.
Some of the original PCV update kits include an insulating wrap/ties to secure the PCV hose with the coolant hoses to reduce the likelihood of freezing.
