Good question - I wouldn't (anymore) either. I just ditched my '96 900 SE w/70k to a local Acura dealer in return for a '02 TL-S...260 ponies, 230 lbs/ft of torque and great sport suspension. Can you say "100k miles w/out a tune-up?
My experience with my Saab was very similar to yours - within 10k miles of the warranty ending I needed a rebuilt tranny (which Saab covered), and have since replaced muffler, brakes, clutch, and DI cassette. The final straw was a diagnosed leaky head gasket - which would have cost $1200 to fix. Guess how much the dealer offered me on a trade - yup, $9500 on the nose (I was looking at a 9-5 SE).
Instead, I took a little less of a trade from the Acura dealer and got what I think is a much more solid car (9-5 SE MSRP=$38 - 40k, Acura MSRP=$31k). Now my Saab (and its still leaking head gasket) will torture someone else...helping to perpetuate the myth that used saabs are risky.
Good luck
