Forget the AL-Df8, a quality sound system needs at least 4 channels. Here's how it's done:

Go to your local radioshack, cartoys, etc. and pick up 2 speaker-level to RCA line output converters (I can't believe I didn't think of this before). Use the diagram of the head unit's wiring on Richard Bevan's Saab Audio FAQ to connect the speaker wires to the converters. As long as you connect the converters behind the head unit, the speaker-level signal won't have much of a chance to pick up any interference. I got 2 SNI-35 Line Output Converters from PAC for about $20 each. If you can't find them at a local electronics/audio store, check out http://www.go2pac.com and look for part # SNI-35.

I just installed these on Sunday, they fit behind the head unit with no problem (I have a '98 900S). I had to take apart the glove box but it was much easier than I expected (instructions for this are also in the audio FAQ). It's really a nice project for a day - take apart your car a little, put it back together, then sit in your driveway and adjust the gains on your amplifier, enjoy your new stereo and blast out your neighbors for a few hours ;).

I hope this helps, and I sincerely apologize to anyone who followed my advice with the AL-DF8. If it makes you feel any better, its been 9 months and more $$ than I care to mention to finally figure this out.

Happy Driving & Listening!
