Hey, Dean,

Thanks for the check list!

> Never hurts to look for split or cracked VAC lines.

I did a quick check on these and they looked OK, but I didn't get
very low in the engine compartment, so there might be a problem lower
down. Car feels a bit down on power, but then it always has felt a
bit low on boost. I should check the turbo bypass valve and the boost
adjustment.

I popped one plug and it looked OK. Some of the plugs seemed a tad
loose. Not rattling, but they allowed an 1/8th turn of extra torqueing.

> Battery in good shape, connectors and electrolyte levels...
> distilled water!

The battery seems OK - starts the car effectively, but it has
evaporated electrolyte before, so that's worth another check.

> Did the temperature guage start to read high?

No, but the silly cooling fan kept on cycling on for 10 seconds
and then off for 30-60. Seems like it ought to stay on longer and
cool things down better.

> Oil looks and smells ok? Should have some of a fuel smell to it,
> but not smell foul.

Quantity OK. Needs an oil change, but then this car has always
dirtied its (Mobil 1) faster than any other car I've owned. Only
58k on the odo, so I don't suspect wear. Probably not enough
highway miles.

> Got a good multi meter?

I do have a good multi-meter so I'll do the resistance test. Any idea what to expect as a good value ? How long do 02 sensors last ? Any
need to go with genuine Saab parts as replacements ?

Should the check engine light flash a code for any of the issues
above ? It seems reluctant to do that which suggests to me that it's
not one of the "coded" items.

I'm thinking that after doing this I should reset the check engine
and see if the problem comes back.

Nigel
