When the MAP signal is hacked on a T5 by reducing is signal level, the ECU will increse boost to get the same signal level. Nothing really exotic or magic about that. By doing this you increase boost or in combo with a MBC you are moving the fuel cut pressure.
The ECU, contrary to the post by the guy guy that made this up, cannot be adapted out. There is a limit to how fa this can go as the T5's fuel mapping will get into trouble and mixtures can get lean. An increase if fuel pressure can overcome this problem.
A resitor mod can get a similar result, but the zero reference point on the boost indicator will be off. An opt amp circuit can be used to remove this DC offset in the signal.
The gas is are quite modest however and MBC will out perform this mod if setup properly. That been said, I have to add that getting a MBC to perform well is not easily done and I had finally reached that point after years of work when my 95SET was rearended and suffered from 'blue book' death.
So in my mind, this mod is over priced and it and the MBC are as a base installation level are only half solutions. Both together might be decent. But a proper setup requires other extensive mods which should be done for these or a proper ECU mod. You will want more gains than this t5b4 mod yields, its a cost benefit thing. Y3es it will produce results, but I sustpect that for many this will simply be a starting point and its too expensive for a half measure. If someone gets a $40MBC and they out grow it and then get the boost bug and they want to spend $800 on an ECU mod, then they only have to set aside a $40 MBC, which is an inexpensive and valueable learning experience. A $400 cable dongle is not.
